The KEA Milling Plant. Murrieta, California. The Seventh most haunted site in the U.S. Photography by Ken Lafler

The KEA Milling Plant is located in the Historic Downtown Section of the Town of Murrieta, California. This is a very interesting part of Murrieta with some of the earlier buildings still in use. One establishment is named the Mill after the Kea Plant.

The Mill was voted the Seventh most haunted site in the
United States on ABC's
Most Haunted Destination's.

Looking somewhat like a Medieval Fortress, the Mill is an interesting Historic Site and should be preserved for future generation's .

The Mill was built in the 1920's and is located near the Murrieta Creek. In the picture  bellow one may view the remains of the stair area. A fire destroyed the steps in the 1990's.

The charred remains may still be viewed.  Due to the loss of the stairs the upper levels are not accessible. This area of the building is extremely dangerous though and should be avoided.

At one time the city supposedly attempted to demolish the building but according to one source the amount of dynamite required for demolition would have blown out  windows for a two mile radius.  -(local resident)

According to a local resident living next to the Old Mill  the author  was told that at one time a person did fall from the top of the mill. While on a drug called pcp, he tried to scale down the side of the building but forgot to use a rope . He fell the full one hundred feet sustaining back injuries and needed to be medifacted from the site by helicopter .

I was also told that the Fire Department uses the site for training proposes but I don't have any other information than this.

The stories of the site being haunted center around a "Girl in a Blue Dress".  Supposedly she fell to her death and now haunts the site.

One does get a strange feeling upon entering the property. She is supposed to be seen in the second window on the top of the Mill.  Witnesses claim to some times smell the scent of Jasmine and some times  hear laughing.

A person living near the site once told me he had seen her in the second window screaming.  The author was not sure what to make of this statement.

There have been sightings of her also at the Old School Building across  the street which burned down in the 1980's.  While writing for patch.com I was constantly told stories about the old buildings I  was photographing and writing about  and they were usually very similar.

Such as the Old Military Academy in Lake Elsinore. People living next to it claim to hear all sort's of noises at night coming from the building, and even claim to hear the sound of marching drums on the parade grounds late at night.

The Mill closed in the early 1990's and has been abandoned  ever since. Some of the shots show the rarely seen interior section of the mill. This section has a tremendous  amount of Graffiti.

An historic site should never  be vandalized or disfigured and this activity  is not encouraged by the author.

The mill is one of the most interesting sites I have ever been too. I have a video on You Tube documenting the site since trespassing is not encouraged either. Hopefully this will give some insight to the Mill for those who are unable to visit the site.

To view the Mill go to Washington and Clay St. The Mill may be seen from a distance so it is not difficult to find.
